KUCHING: Sarawak’s Industrial Harmony Index (IHI) rose to 81.5 per cent in 2024 from 79.3 per cent in 2022, reflecting stronger employer-employee relations across the state.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said the improved score signals a healthy industrial relations environment aligned with national goals.
The IHI, released biennially by the Department of Industrial Relations Malaysia (DIRM), is based on employer participation in the IHI Self-Assessment (IHI SA) — a joint evaluation involving both employers and employees.
“I urge more companies to join this initiative via the free IRIS platform,” said Gerawat during the launch of the Sarawak Industrial Harmony Programme 2025 at Waterfront hotel yesterday.
He added that companies meeting the IHI SA criteria receive the Harmonious Company Rating Certificate (SPSH), helping to boost investor confidence and attract job seekers by highlighting positive workplace culture.
Now in its fourth year, the Industrial Harmony Programme has rotated across Kuching, Bintulu, Sibu, and this year, Miri — drawing 250 participants including employers, unions, training providers, and academics.
The event also honoured companies that completed the Productivity-Linked Wage System (PLWS) coaching, and highlighted Sarawak firms that stood out nationally for their harmony practices.
TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd was crowned Champion in the Large Company Category at the Harmonious Company Award 2025.
