KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the Dayak community’s prosperity through a series of initiatives.
“Implementing more activities into our community will stimulate economic growth and elevate the living standards of those in longhouse communities,” said Tiong in his Gawai message.
The Ministry, he said, was playing an active role in promoting Sarawak’s multi-ethnic festivals to an international audience, highlighting Dayak culture’s unique appeal.
“Our efforts are designed to showcase Sarawak’s diverse cultural attractions, providing unforgettable experiences for travellers,” he said.
According to Tiong, who also the Bintulu MP, the implementation of homestay programmes in longhouses was expected to generate varied income sources for villagers and improve their quality of life.
“I urge our community members to extend their renowned hospitality to global visitors, ensuring they feel welcomed and cherished,” he added.
Tiong praised the Dayak harvest festival as a vibrant, interactive museum where guests can immerse themselves in the ancient traditions and wisdom of the Dayak people.
“This festival allows visitors to delve into the civilisation of the Dayak and other ethnic groups, showcasing Sarawak’s pride on the global stage. It’s also a time for reunion, and I am thrilled to celebrate this occasion with our friends from Peninsula Malaysia.
“During this harvest season, let’s gather around the ‘Pohon Ranyai’ to express our hopes for a future filled with unity, respect, and mutual tolerance, and wish for Sarawak’s continued prosperity,” he added.
Tiong also addressed the reduced frequency of his longhouse visits, attributing it to his ministerial responsibilities.
“Please be assured that my commitment to our community’s issues remains unwavering. As the ministry’s operations stabilise, I plan to spend more time on the ground to better understand and address the concerns of my constituents,” he said.
