KUCHING: The Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarawak has 45 more fibreglass boats to deal with any emergency during the approaching monsoon season.
Its deputy director Cuthbert John Martin Quadra told the media yesterday at the Civil Defence Training Centre in Jalan Diplomatik, Petra Jaya here.
He said the assets from the federal government were a timely welcome, adding, “We are already experiencing heavy rain in Kuching and as the secretariat for the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), we have been preparing for this sort of situation since the start of the year.”
The addition had brought the number of boats in their inventory to 116, he said and “they will be distributed to each district in Sarawak accordingly, depending on request and criticality.”
Talking about flood-prone areas, Cuthbert said, “They have already been listed down and APM are currently monitoring the situation. We are monitoring non-flooding areas.”
Cuthbert said APM personnel have had their leaves frozen as the situation requires them to be on standby.
