KUCHING: The imposition of the sales tax on petroleum products at the rate of 5 percent is a new source of revenue that would generate good income for the state.

According to Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, this is due to the anticipated sum of RM3.897 billion which is to be collected next year.

“With this additional revenue, the state can step up its efforts to implement more projects particularly in the rural areas that would bring more prosperity to the rural community.

“We have been neglected of infrastructure development, particularly water,   electricity and roads,” he added.

He also said that the people in the state have not been able to enjoy the same quality of life as their counterparts in West Malaysia.

“Therefore, I fully support the state in exercising its constitutional right to impose sales tax on petroleum products,” he said in his debate speech when debating the State Budget 2019 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, yesterday.
