BETONG: The increase in the number of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats from 82 to 99 is seen as enhancing the efficiency of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s services to the people.
Many believe that this is a step forward, in line with Sarawak’s rapid growth.
Therefore, it is time for the Sarawak DUN constituency redelineation to be carried out, thereby adding representatives who will champion the voices of the grassroots.

The redelineation of the Sarawak DUN constituency boundaries will make it easier for elected representatives to get closer to the people, thus enabling them to be more responsive — which will have a positive impact on both parties. I am confident that the significant impact of the increase in DUN constituencies will further strengthen the administration of the Sarawak government under GPS. The condition is that the government and the people must always remain united — “Segulai Sejalai” — for the sake of Sarawak’s glorious future.

This is a right and far-sighted step for the sake of Sarawak’s overall rapid development. With the increase in DUN areas, the allocation for each constituency will be more focused on its main priorities, directly benefiting the people in various forms — whether in social, economic, or human capital development. I believe it will make it easier for each elected representative to provide the best service in their respective areas. Since the number of voters will be reduced, financial allocations will also be more organised.
MANDIE GARAN

I welcome the proposal to increase the number of Sarawak DUN areas from 82 to 99. This move is timely, following the increase in population, the development of rural areas, and the increasingly complex needs of the people. This proposal will not only bring more elected representatives to the DUN, but will also increase service efficiency. The people’s voices will be heard more, and development will be more balanced — especially in interior areas, which are often marginalised. Hopefully, this increase in seats will truly bring benefits to the people, not just an increase in numbers on paper.
MOHD MOHIDEN HAMDAN

A very significant decision was taken by the GPS government under the leadership of the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He recognised that there were very densely populated DUN areas that should be broken up to allow for more focused and vibrant development. Otherwise, some areas might develop more slowly. This effort is also expected to create space for an increase in the number of parliamentary seats in the future.
