BINTULU: Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming has suggested that the Light It Up Blue Walkathon 2024 deserves more support in the future.

Pang hoped for greater public and local authority backing to extend the programme’s positive impact.

“Let us together strive to achieve a more inclusive society and be caring towards everyone,” said Pang during its opening ceremony at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMBK) on Saturday.

The event, themed ‘Stride for Special Needs Awareness’ and attended by 816 participants who walked distances of 2km and 5km, was organised by the Association for Early Childhood Educators Advocacy (AECE) Bintulu in partnership with UPMKB and sponsored by MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd.

The walkathon aimed to enhance awareness of the critical role early intervention plays in the education of children with special needs.

“I am delighted to see participation from all segments of society, especially parents, children with special needs, and the local community,” he added.
