MIRI: More than just a place to train, Warmonger Training Academy (WTA) is becoming a home where aspiring fighters are shaped into athletes, while coaches continue building the next generation of combat sports talent.
Based in Miri, WTA has established itself as one of Sarawak’s leading multi-combat sports training centres, offering programmes in mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and general fitness.
Unlike traditional single-discipline gyms, WTA provides a platform for everyone from complete beginners to competitive athletes, focusing on both technical development and personal growth.
The academy’s progress has been reflected in a series of strong performances by its athletes in recent competitions.
At the Bintulu Amateur Muaythai Challenge 2026, four WTA athletes under the guidance of head coach, Trevor Salang, secured an impressive haul of two gold medals and two silver medals.
The team’s success was further highlighted when Danny Huang earned the Best Elite Boxer Award in the 53kg to 56kg category, while Patteriuson claimed gold in the 75kg to 81kg division.
WTA continued its momentum at the MFC x Sarawak Martial Arts Championship 3.0 2026 in Kuching, where three athletes competed under coach, Tingang Bulan.
Ethan Tsen delivered a spectacular first-round knockout victory, while Brandon Lee secured a second-round stoppage through dominant knee strikes. Muhammad Saifuddin also contributed to the team’s achievement by winning a silver medal.
Beyond producing successful athletes, WTA is also strengthening its coaching foundation.
Coaches Gavin Mattu, Cynthia Soon and Mohamad Azmeer recently completed their IBA Level 1 National Boxing Coach Licences and received their licences during the 2026 Talent and Youth Boxing Championship in Sibu.
The achievement further enhances WTA’s ability to provide nationally recognised boxing instruction while ensuring its athletes receive quality guidance from qualified coaches.
With its continued focus on athlete development and coaching excellence, WTA aims to play a bigger role in growing the combat sports community in Sarawak.
