SIBU: The State Social Welfare Department (JKM) has allocated RM209,590,550 to 58,038 monthly beneficiaries in Sarawak in 2018.
Community Welfare Assistant Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the amount involved various forms of assistance including those for senior citizens, the disabled and child support.
“JKM Sibu has channelled RM30,141,450 to 8,336 monthly beneficiaries within the same period,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the “Chinese New Year – Sejambak Kasih” programme yesterday.
Harden, who is also Simanggang assemblyman, said that the aid under the JKM was to ease the burdens of the needy.
According to him, a total of 7,738 recipients will receive contributions under the programme throughout the state. “Those who celebrate the Chinese New Year will receive RM100 cash and a RM50 hamper each while those who did not attend the programme will have the RM100 cash banked into their respective accounts,” he said.
Harden added 2,073 or 26 percent of the total number of beneficiaries in the Sibu Division would receive this contribution for the Chinese New Year celebration.
“At today’s ceremony, 150 beneficiaries will receive the donation,” he said.
