KUCHING: The Sarawak government is encouraging more workers in the state to take advantage of the Kad Pekerja MADANI initiative, which offers various financial and welfare benefits aimed at easing the cost of living.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, said the initiative reflects the federal government’s appreciation for workers’ contributions to national development, including those in Sarawak.

To date, there are 68,834 registered trade union members in Sarawak who are eligible to apply for the card introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 1.

“We hope more workers, particularly union members, will apply for the Kad Pekerja MADANI as it is one of the key initiatives introduced by the Prime Minister and Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong to safeguard workers’ welfare,” Gerawat said.

He said this after officiating at the 2025 National Trade Union Movement Colloquium held at Riverside Majestic hotel here on Thursday.

The Kad Pekerja MADANI provides cardholders with discounts of up to 30 per cent at over 100 partner companies nationwide offering essential goods and services. It also gives access to subsidised training and upskilling programmes, as well as social welfare and protection support.
