MERADONG: A six-hour police surveillance yesterday (Nov 19) uncovered a suspected drug den along Jalan Hing Kwong, Kelupu, leading to the arrest of 15 men, including an Indonesian.

Between 5.30 am and 11.30 am, the Meradong police task force conducted surveillance and a raid at a forested area, which was believed to be a hub for drug-related activities.

Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said 14 locals, aged between 19 and 40, along with a 38-year-old Indonesian, were swiftly taken into custody.

“All of them were then taken to Bintangor police station for further action.

“Urine tests found that 13 locals and the Indonesian tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while a local man tested negative and was released.

“Background checks showed that seven of the detainees had prior arrests for similar offences,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries up to RM5,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.

Tansli warned that operations will continue with increased intensity to clamp down on drug-related crimes.

Members of the public are urged to steer clear of illegal activities and to report any suspicious activity to the police at 084-693222.
