KUCHING: A Singaporean consultancy firm sees potential for East Malaysia to balance economic growth with environmental preservation and achieve a sustainable future.
According to MORROW’s directors (Business), Daniel Liu, and Li Yu Zhou the region’s commitment to promoting economic growth while preserving its natural resources and biodiversity provides an opportunity for innovative and sustainable urban planning.
“With the right strategies, East Malaysia can achieve its development goals while minimising the environmental impact,” they said in an opinion piece posted on their website recently.
By doing so, not only can Sarawak’s natural heritage be protected, but also a more sustainable and liveable environment for its people can be created.
Moreover, they said that realising East Malaysia’s potential for economic growth will require a joint effort from the government, private sector, and civil society.
“Addressing the challenges of infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and transportation costs will be crucial to unlocking the region’s full potential,” they said.
According to them, by leveraging its rich natural resources, promoting tourism, and capitalising on its strategic location, East Malaysia has the potential to become a vibrant hub of economic growth and development in Southeast Asia.
They also shared that MORROW’s team had the opportunity to meet the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his team last year.
The discussions, as New Sarawak Tribune understands, potentially involve the study of an integrated development master plan for Tanjung Embang in Kuching.
