SIBU: Masjid An-Nur welcomed a remarkable crowd of 1,500 people to its Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at the mosque yesterday (May 7).
The programme, organised by the Masjid An-Nur committee, was aimed at bringing the community together to celebrate the joyous Hari Raya celebration after a month-long fast.
The programme was officiated by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee who was represented by political secretary to the Premier Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi.
Masjid An-Nur committee chairman Dahari Jol in his welcoming speech highlighted the importance of the programme in fostering ukhwah (brotherhood) among those present.
He said the festive atmosphere provided an opportunity for individuals to strengthen their relationships, even if they rarely saw each other.
Dahari also said the mosque committee had actively organised various activities that benefited the local community throughout Ramadan.

These included programmes such as breaking-of-fast, Tadarus Al Quran (Quran recitation sessions), tarawih prayers, and various knowledge-sharing which served as a means of nourishing the Muslim community, particularly in Sibu.
“This event also allows us to express our gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah SWT. Moreover, it provides us with an opportunity to bring joy to the asnaf community (those eligible to receive zakat) and less fortunate individuals as we celebrate this joyous occasion,” he added.
The guests were treated to a delectable array of dishes, including chicken curry, laksa, and a variety of Malay traditional dishes.
The culinary delights served during the Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri created a festive atmosphere and added to the overall merriment of the event.
Adding to the excitement of the celebration was a lucky draw session, featuring a 42-inch TV unit as the main prize.
Also present were Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh and deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.
