BINTULU: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), together with Tourism Malaysia, has introduced a “Health-cation” travel package for healthcare workers in Bintulu as an appreciation for the contributions of frontliners.
Its minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the initiative includes discounted return airfares from Sibu or Bintulu to Kuala Lumpur, along with hotel accommodation offers, access to theme parks and various other travel packages.
“With the support of Batik Air, healthcare workers can enjoy special fares of RM69 one-way and RM138 return.
“The package booking period begins on Sept 1, 2025 until March 31, 2026, while travel is valid from Sept 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026,” he said.
Elaborating further, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, said hotels under the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) are also offering at least 10 per cent off room rates.
“Meanwhile, major theme parks such as Splash Mania, Sunway Lagoon and Genting SkyWorlds are offering various discounts on admission tickets and special packages,” he added.
He said the benefits have now been extended to all categories of healthcare workers including nurses, doctors, pharmacists and support staff, as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication in providing services to the community.
“The government stresses that with the continuous support of corporate partners and the commitment of the medical team, efforts to strengthen the healthcare system will continue to be enhanced towards creating a healthier and more prosperous Bintulu community,” he said in his Facebook posting after attending the Bintulu Division Health Appreciation Ceremony, which was also attended by Press Metal yesterday (Nov 15).
At the same time, Tiong also expressed appreciation to Press Metal Bintulu for contributing an ultraportable X-ray machine in 2023.
He said the contribution helped increase the number of diagnostic scans from 1,216 to 2,236 this year and expanded access to treatment in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
“Tokens of appreciation were also presented to Press Metal and OM Materials for contributing the CMMS digital system, which began in Bintulu and is now used in 142 clinics throughout Sarawak, as well as to OM Materials (Sarawak) for donating essential equipment to the first Government OSH Clinic in Bintulu.
“We want to continue driving this momentum towards a fully digital patient experience — from self-registration upon arrival to receiving medication at the pharmacy counter in the next phase,” he said.
