KUCHING: A motorcyclist was arrested after performing a dangerous wheelie along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob here during an integrated crime prevention operation yesterday morning (Mar 15).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspect was detained by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division during the operation conducted by the district police headquarters (IPD).
“The suspect was riding a Yamaha motorcycle and was seen lifting the front wheel while travelling along the road, an act that could endanger himself and other road users.
“He was arrested and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement.
Alexson said the integrated operation was carried out from 11pm on Saturday (Mar 14) until 3am the next day.
It involved five senior officers and 33 personnel from various divisions and police stations under the district.
During the operation, police inspected 293 individuals and 272 vehicles, while 96 traffic summonses were issued for various offences.
The crime prevention patrol focused on areas under the Sekama, Gita and Tabuan Jaya police stations.
