SIBU: A 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision after riding against traffic along KM209 Jalan Sibu-Bintulu early Wednesday morning (Feb 18).
Sibu police chief Supt Boniface Bajai said the fatal crash occurred at about 6.12am near the Sibu Jaya roundabout, involving a Perodua Myvi and a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle.
He said initial investigations found that the motorcyclist, a local man, was travelling against the flow of traffic towards Sibu Jaya when he collided with the oncoming car driven by a 51-year-old man heading towards the town centre.
“The motorcyclist suffered severe head injuries and a severed left leg, and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.
The driver was unhurt.
The impact left the front portion of the car badly damaged, while the motorcycle was extensively wrecked.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
