Motorcyclist killed in crash after beating red light

SIBU: A man was killed in an accident after beating a red light at Jalan Pedada here Tuesday night. The 20-year-old motorcyclist, identified as  Pattrus Gama Baki, died at the scene while his pillion rider,   Morision Limbie, 18, sustained serious injuries.

Sibu  Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt  Alexson Naga  Chabu  said in the 11.45 pm incident, the two friends  were heading towards the city centre when the motorcycle they were riding rammed a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) which was coming from Jalan  Wong King Huo towards Jalan  Oya.

According to a witness, the two of them were spotted beating the traffic light before the machine smashed into the MPV, he said here. Alexson  said the 21-year-old female driver of the MPV, however, escaped injuries.

The body was taken to the Sibu  Hospital while the injured victim was being treated at the same hospital, he added. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
