MUKAH: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash at KM52 Jalan Mukah–Selangau yesterday (Dec 5) after striking a roadside barrier.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the 2.40 pm incident occurred when the victim, who was travelling from Mukah towards Sibu, lost control before hitting the barrier.
He said the impact caused the rider to fall onto the road, while the motorcycle continued moving.
“The still-moving motorcycle was then hit by a four-wheel drive (4WD) coming from the opposite direction, driven by a 43-year-old man,” he said in a statement.
The victim sustained severe head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer from Mukah Hospital, while the 4WD driver was unhurt.
Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Witnesses have been urged to contact Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Rahmat Jalim at 011-31627137 or report to the nearest police station.
