BAU: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along Jalan Bau – Kuching, late yesterday afternoon (Sept 19).
The Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division received a report on the accident at 4.25 pm, where the MPV driver, who was heading from Bau and negotiating a hilly bend, lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane before colliding with a motorcycle travelling from Kuching towards Bau.
Bau District police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman said the impact threw the motorcyclist together with the motorcycle onto the roadside verge.
He said the motorcyclist was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics from Kota Sentosa Hospital, while the MPV driver and a passenger did not sustain any injuries.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and is still under investigation,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Haide also urged witnesses with information to come forward to assist in the investigation or contact the nearest police station.
He also advised members of the public not to speculate on the case and reminded road users to always drive cautiously, especially in unpredictable weather conditions, to ensure vehicles are in good condition and to practise safe driving.
