KOTA SAMARAHAN: A young man was killed in a solo motorcycle crash along Kilometre 13, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, here in the early hours of Saturday (May 10).

The victim, a 32-year-old lorry driver from Kampung Quap, Jalan Kimura, was riding a Modenas Ninja ZX250 motorcycle which is reportedly owned by a friend.

Kota Samarahan District Police Chief, Supt Damataries Lautin, said the fatal incident occurred at 2:55 am, with clear weather and dry, flat road conditions at the time.

“A call was received at 1:30 am from the Kota Samarahan District Police operation room alerting of a fatal single-vehicle accident.

“Initial investigations found that the victim was riding from the direction of PETRONAS Samarindah, Kota Samarahan, heading towards Kampung Quap.

“Upon reaching Kilometre 13 Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa and riding straight, the motorcycle suddenly lost control and crashed into the metal guardrail on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

As a result of the collision, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:03 am.

Police at the crash site had also directed that the damaged motorcycle be taken to the Kota Samarahan Traffic Police Station.

The victim’s body was then sent to the Forensic Unit at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for a post-mortem examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
