Motorcyclist killed in three-vehicle crash in Permyjaya

MIRI: A 21-year-old motorcyclist has been killed in a road crash involving a pick-up truck and two motorcycles in Permyjaya here.

The collision occurred at about 6.30 pm yesterday (April 3) along Jalan Indah 2.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a report was received shortly after the incident, prompting an immediate response and on-site investigation.

Initial findings indicate that the pick-up truck, driven by a 45-year-old local man, was travelling from his workplace at Miri Port to his home in Desa Pujut 2, Permyjaya. Upon reaching Jalan Indah 2, the vehicle is believed to have entered the opposite lane, where it collided with two motorcycles travelling in the opposite direction.

One of the motorcyclists, a 21-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist, aged 32, and the pick-up driver did not sustain any injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information to come forward to assist with investigations. They are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Nor Afifah Nordin, at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or to report to the nearest police station.

ACP Mohd Farhan also advised road users to exercise caution, practise responsible driving and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to reduce the risk of similar incidents.

Investigations are ongoing.
