Motorcyclist killed, pillion injured in crash

KUCHING: A motorcyclist was killed while a pillion passenger was injured after their vehicle lost control and collided with a roadside guardrail at the Jalan Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub bridge here.

The crash happened at 11.45pm on Sept 13.

Kuching Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said both the rider and pillion passenger, who are suspected to be foreign nationals and had no identification on them, veered off the road before hitting the guardrail on the right-hand shoulder.

“As a result of the accident, the rider was pronounced dead at 12.05 am on Sept 14 by a medical officer at Sarawak General Hospital, while the pillion passenger was rushed to the hospital’s Emergency Unit for further treatment,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are also urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Charlie Aloysius at 014-8682068 or the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) at 082-259900.

Road users are also reminded to drive cautiously and comply with all traffic laws.
