KUCHING: A man has passing motorists to thank for pulling him to safety after his car suddenly caught fire.

It could have been worse for the man, who sustained injuries, had they not stopped following the mishap along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub at midnight (Nov 10).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said passers-by managed to rescue the driver and took him to Normah Hospital nearby for treatment.

The extent of his injuries were not immediately clear.

Firemen from the  Petra Jaya station were despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 12.05am.

The team found the fire was still raging by the roadside and took about 15 minutes to put out the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
