KUCHING: Sarawak strengthened its push toward a unified national digital identity system on Friday following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) to integrate SarawakPass with MyDigital ID at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building here.

The MoU was signed between State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and chief executive of NACSA Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tahuddin in the presence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the agreement marked a significant milestone for both Sarawak and the nation in building a secure and trusted digital identity framework.

“With this, the Sarawak government has officially strengthened its cooperation with the federal government through the signing of the MOU to integrate SarawakPass with MyDigital ID. This marks an important advancement in the development of a national digital identity ecosystem that is secure, trusted and unified.

“This partnership is a strategic effort to connect Sarawak’s digital identity platform known as SarawakPass with the national Digital ID ecosystem of Malaysia,” he said when met by reporters.

Julaihi said the collaboration supports Sarawak’s digital transformation agenda and reinforces the state’s commitment to improving cyber security, strengthening public confidence and expanding the use of digital services.

SarawakPass, introduced in 2025 as an upgraded version of SarawakID launched in 2018, now serves more than 1.8 million users as a streamlined gateway to state government online services with faster access and a more user friendly experience.

MyDigital ID, introduced in 2019 and implemented nationwide in 2023, serves nearly six million users across the public and private sectors as Malaysia’s official digital identity platform.

Through the integration, SarawakPass and MyDigital ID users will enjoy seamless and secure access across both state and federal government platforms, allowing each to use the other’s services through a shared authentication framework.

The collaboration focuses on secure API development, single sign on, cross platform login, policy alignment and strengthened cyber security measures to support a trusted identity framework that safeguards digital transactions and enhances service delivery.

The Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit under the Sarawak Premier’s Department leads the SarawakPass initiative, with Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd managing platform development and operations while the Sarawak Multimedia Authority oversees compliance with State digital governance standards.

At the federal level, the National Cyber Security Agency under the National Security Council supervises the national Digital ID rollout, while My Digital ID Sdn Bhd manages its development and ongoing operations.

The integrated SarawakPass and MyDigital ID system is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2026.
