SIBU: The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mandarin Sibu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI) campus to establish a new student organisation known as JCI Youth Methodist Pilley Institute.

This initiative is designed to offer students a meaningful platform for leadership development, civic engagement, and personal growth.

The MOU was signed by  Principal and Chief Executive Officer MPI, Dr Lu Huong Ying, and JCI Mandarin Sibu Local President 2025, Alexander Ling Chung Chian.

It was witnessed by MPI lecturer, Vincent Sii, Protem President of JCI Youth MPI, Calvin Wong, and Past Presidents of JCI Mandarin Sibu, Boston Ho and Lucas Kong.

Ling in his speech said that the formation of JCI Youth MPI represents an extension of the organisation’s longstanding efforts to promote youth leadership and empowerment in local institutions of higher learning.

He said that since 2023, under the leadership of Ho, JCI Mandarin Sibu has been working to introduce the core values of JCI into the college community here.

These values include active citizenship, leadership training, and service to society.

He described the successful collaboration with MPI as a significant step forward in achieving this vision.

Meanwhile, Dr Lu expressed her sincere appreciation to JCI Mandarin Sibu for their trust and partnership.

She shared that MPI is committed to providing students with platforms that encourage holistic growth, and that the newly established JCI Youth MPI will serve as a vibrant space for students to explore leadership, participate in community initiatives, and make a positive impact.

She added that JCI is a globally recognised youth organisation dedicated to developing citizens between the ages of 18 and 40 into responsible leaders who take initiative for positive change.

The mission of JCI, she said, aligns closely with the values of Methodist Pilley Institute in nurturing students who are socially conscious and ready to serve.
