LIMBANG: The Sarawak government is committed to enhancing educational opportunities for Muslims, which is in line with the aspiration of creating a developed and prosperous society.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the government has implemented various educational initiatives aimed at empowering Muslims.

“For Muslims, we have made a decision to give strength to the education sector, alongside extending support to non-Muslims, in the form of international schools.

“We are also establishing an international Islamic school in Sarawak with an international curriculum, modelled after institutions in Singapore. This is our way to cultivate expertise and intellect among Muslims.

“Additionally, we also provide training for our religious leaders (ustaz) by sending them of Oxford, England. This gives them exposure to the different ways of life, be it in the Western or Eastern context,” he said.

He made these remarks when officiating at the 63rd State Level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Ceremony at the Limbang Auditorium here yesterday (Mar 6).

Abang Johari urged Muslim youths to contribute to the development of society, particularly within Sarawak’s diverse multi-racial and multi-religious community.

“The changing economic landscape and shifting climate conditions compel us to use reason to strengthen ourselves.

“We leave the future to the new generation. That’s why young Muslim children should contribute to the society before aging sets in, before the demands of adulthood consume their time,” he added.

Also present were Premier’s wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, Islamic Council of Sarawak (MIS) chairman Datuk Misnu Taha, and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) Sarawak director Datuk Khalidi Ibrahim.
