KUCHING: Sarawak is strengthening its collaboration with the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) to advance green technology and climate initiatives.
In a recent meeting with Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Hipni, MGTC, led by Greentech Ideaslab chief executive officer Elina Jani, highlighted opportunities for Sarawak to play a significant role in major sustainability events, including the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS) week, the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2025), and the Malaysia Pavilion at COP30 in Brazil.
KLSS 2025, scheduled for Oct 14-16, will serve as a strategic platform for Asean leaders to discuss net zero pathways, climate adaptation, and sustainable finance while highlighting Sarawak’s pioneering hydrogen economy and carbon trading framework.
Meanwhile, IGEM 2025, from Oct 15-17, will offer a platform to present clean energy advancements and attract investors.
Additionally, the Malaysia Pavilion at COP30 in Brazil, set for Nov 10-21, will reinforce Sarawak’s role in shaping regional policies on renewable energy, sustainable financing, and carbon management.
MGTC, during the meeting, also extended an invitation to the Premier to participate in these pivotal events, where his involvement is expected to further amplify the state’s green ambitions and provide an international platform to showcase its leadership in renewable energy and climate resilience.
Sarawak has made significant progress in the green economy, particularly in hydrogen energy, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and sustainable finance, with its proactive initiatives such as the carbon levy under the Environmental Ordinance 2023 and plans for Asean’s emissions trading system positioning it as a regional leader in sustainability.
These events are stated to showcase Malaysia’s green leadership on a global stage while aligning with Sarawak’s broader vision for sustainable economic growth and regional leadership in climate action.
