KUCHING: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) Sarawak has proposed raising the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution rate for non-pensionable civil servants in the state from 13 per cent to 18 per cent.

CUEPACS Sarawak chairman Jubilee Jineh said the proposal aims to enhance the financial security of these employees after retirement.

“The Sarawak Governor has responded positively to this suggestion.

“We will also hold further discussions with the Premier and the Sarawak State Secretary to refine the proposal,” he said.

He told reporters this after a courtesy visit to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak today.

During the meeting, the delegation also discussed CUEPACS Sarawak’s role in supporting both state and federal civil servants, as well as its various initiatives to safeguard their welfare.

Established in 2010, Sarawak is the only state with its own CUEPACS office, made possible through state government support.

“We also hope the state government will enhance its assistance for civil servants in the coming years,” Jubilee added.

He noted that other initiatives planned by CUEPACS Sarawak for this year are still under discussion and will be further deliberated in upcoming engagements with relevant stakeholders.

Also present were CUEPACS Sarawak deputy chairman Sabri Sahari, secretary Rohana Jaini, as well as committee members and officers.
