THE federal government has come out with an alternative implementation model to expedite repair works of dilapidated schools in Sarawak.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said both the Sarawak and federal governments are working on the details of a new funding and implementation mechanism to the federal government.
“Under the proposal, repairs and redevelopment of dilapidated schools would be initially financed by the Sarawak government and later reimbursed by the federal government.

“Despite the arrangements being in progress, the federal government has introduced an alternative implementation.
“Therefore, beginning May 13 to 16, representatives from the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM), my ministry, Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS), Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, and other Sarawak government departments and agencies will conduct a site visits at eight schools to assess the requirements for repair work projects,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
Sagah said ICU JPM has made known the availability of allocation for the eight projects of up to RM5 million per school, depending on the extent of the works required.
“The selected schools are SMK Agama in Sibu, SK Batu Lintang in Sri Aman, SK Muhibbah in Kuching, SK Sungai Bulu Senangeh in Asajaya, SK Gumpey in Gedong, SK Pelaman Sidunuk in Serian, SK Patung in Serian and SK Rambungan in Lundu,” he said.
He hoped that with the alternative implementation model, repair works could be expedited and yield the best outcome, and it may then be replicated at other suitable locations.
