KUALA IGAN: The Kuala Igan Lighthouse has strong potential to be developed into a new ecotourism product that could stimulate the local coastal economy.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the lighthouse site holds unique value due to its geographical setting, natural landscape and the preserved beauty of its coastal surroundings.

“These special features make the Kuala Igan Lighthouse a promising ecotourism attraction capable of drawing visitors from within and outside the area, which in turn will generate economic spillover for the local community,” he said during a visit to the lighthouse construction site here recently.

Juanda, who is also Jemoreng assemblyman, stressed the importance of cooperation from all parties especially community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) in the surrounding areas to ensure the project is implemented smoothly and completed according to schedule.

“Strong community support is crucial to facilitate the construction process and to realise the goal of turning the lighthouse into a tourism asset that adds value to the Kuala Igan area,” he added.

He also expressed hope that the project would be completed within the stipulated period so that its benefits can be enjoyed by all, particularly the local residents.

The Kuala Igan Lighthouse project involves the relocation of the Tanjung Sirik Lighthouse to a new site due to several factors.

The project began in July 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by July this year.
