KUCHING: Sarawak’s progress and achievements today demonstrate the state is moving fast forward with structured and holistic planning, said Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Looking back on the past year, he said Sarawak’s achievements were the result of visionary leadership under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg supported by the collective commitment of the people.

“New infrastructure continues to be developed, the green economy is progressing and advancing, the tourism industry continues to grow, and awareness of the importance of education for Sarawak’s future generation is steadily intensifying.

“All these efforts demonstrate that Sarawak is moving forward in a structured and holistic manner, while ensuring unity and togetherness among its people ,” he said in his New Year’s greetings in conjunction with the Sarawak Countdown 2026 celebration held here on Wednesday night (Dec. 31).

As Sarawak steps into 2026, Abdul Karim called on the people to embrace the New Year with gratitude, courage and renewed hope, while continuing to work together to elevate the state to greater heights.

“Let this year stand as a testament to our determination to remain united, to continue creating and contributing, and to lift Sarawak onto a higher stage.

“My prayer is that Sarawak will continue to prosper, and that our leaders and people are granted strength, good health and steadfast resolve,” he said.

On the Sarawak Countdown 2026, he said the gathering was not only a moment to welcome the arrival of a new year, but also a celebration of the resilient spirit of Sarawakians who continue to live in harmony and mutual understanding.

“We come together not only to await the arrival of the New Year, but also to celebrate the spirit of the people of Sarawak, a community that remains united, harmonious and bound by consensus,” he said.

Abdul Karim said the celebration themed ‘Fiesta’ showcased the dynamism of Sarawak’s creative and cultural landscape, combining elements of art, music, technology and youth creativity as the state charts its journey toward 2030.

He added that this year’s programme featured local bands, creative dance performances and appearances by Sarawakian and national artistes, alongside international performer, Judika, reflecting the vibrancy and growing confidence of the state’s creative industry.
