KUCHING: The proposal to introduce higher healthcare charges, as outlined in the Health White Paper (HWP), will not have an impact on the M40 group, according to Dr Kelvin Yii.
The Bandar Kuching MP and Special Advisor to the Minister of Health stated that the proposal by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) would instead enhance healthcare assistance and protection for this particular group.
“I want to emphasise that we adhere to the principle of universal health, which means that the poor and those below the M40 will always be provided with healthcare assistance and protection.
“This proposal is being studied by experts, not only in the health field but also in economics, to optimise allocations. However, I assure you that if there are any (approved proposals), they will be implemented gradually,” he said.
Speaking to the media at the Selangan Batu Village Community’s Bomb Disposal Equipment Handover Ceremony on Friday (June 16), Dr Yii was responding to the Ministry of Health’s statement issued on Wednesday.
He explained that the healthcare reform white paper is a comprehensive plan that spans short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals, aiming to transform healthcare over a 15-year period.
