KUCHING: A total of 254 households from Kampung Sadir, Sibuang, Sibakar and Simuti received food basket donations during a handover ceremony held at Kampung Sadir Hal today.
Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Willie Mongin, said that the initiative was launched in response to the collapse of the Sungai Sauh Bridge Kampung Sadir on April 22.
“The reason why we hand over the food basket is to ease the burden of the people that were completely disconnected from surrounding areas for several days.
“The bridge was only restored on May 1. It is now passable, and people can drive to the kampung again and everything is back to normal,” he said when contacted by the Sarawak Tribune.
For the record, the Sungai Sauh Bridge, located in Kampung Sadir, Padawan, collapsed at approximately 2:15 pm on April 22 after a lorry carrying stones plunged along with the structure.
The bridge was the only route linking the affected villages to nearby towns for them to get essential services.
Acknowledging the long-term importance of stable infrastructure, he also announced that plans for a major upgrade are in the pipeline under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).
“We will put it up in the RMK-13 to upgrade the road and bridges leading from Kampung Annah Rais to Kampung Semuti.
“We urged the federal government, through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to support the proposal by getting the project approved and allocating the necessary funds,” he said.
