KUCHING: Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin lashed out at opposition MPs for calling him a “kafir” (infidel), reminding them that he was the so-called infidel who had helped Perikatan Nasional (PN) to seize power in 2020.
Irked by uncalled for labels such as “kafir” or non-believers by some of the PN MPs, Willie said he regretted that some elected representatives had resorted to name-calling, including labelling others as “traitors” during the recent Dewan Rakyat sitting.
“Remember that it was this “kafir” who helped some of you here become minister.
“As a Malaysian, I get offended when such terms are used,” he was quoted by Free Malaysia Today (FMT) as saying in a report.
Willie said political parties should not come up with incendiary statements that could incite the public, warning that it would ruin the country.
Earlier on October 17, Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) sparked a heated argument in the Dewan Rakyat when he labelled the Democratic Action Party (DAP) as “kafir”.
It has become a trend among Malaysian politicians to resort to name-calling or use sensitive derogatory language against one another.
