KUCHING: The 2025 MATTA Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam is set to elevate Malaysia’s presence in international sports while boosting tourism.
Scheduled from October 7-20 at PIKABOL Malaysia, the event features a RM100,000 prize pool and expects over 1,350 participants and 2,600 visitors.
Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Nigel Wong said the tournament offers a platform to promote Malaysia’s culture, landscapes, and hospitality to international visitors.
“By integrating sports and tourism, we aim to create a lasting economic impact and position Malaysia as a must-visit destination.
“With MATTA leading the organization and promotion, this event aligns with our vision of strengthening tourism through high-impact programs,” he stated in a press release at the press conference held at Baitulmakmur Building II on Friday.
Additionally, Wong had also shared the outline of the October tournament’s structure.
“The first week will feature team events, with each team sending 12 members to represent five categories: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Masters Mixed Doubles.
“The following week will focus on Men’s Open Singles, Men’s Open Doubles, Women’s Open Doubles, followed by the conclusion of the event with the Junior Open, which is for participants aged 18 and below,” he said.
He clarified that participants do not need to be registered under specific associations, though most players are affiliated with Pickleball Global, which will be the primary platform for marketing and attracting international competitors.
“We will leverage Pickleball Global to maximize international participation,” Wong added.
