KUCHING: The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has extended the closing date for submissions to the Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) MPI PETRONAS 2025 to Jan 30, 2026.

MPI president Datuk Yong Soo Heong said the extension is aimed at giving media practitioners across various platforms including print, television, radio, news portals and digital content additional time to review their selected works and submit their best entries.

He said the move is also intended to ensure broader and higher-quality participation, in line with MPI’s efforts to recognise excellence and the contributions of media practitioners in strengthening the national journalism landscape.

“In this regard, all media organisations, journalists and media practitioners are encouraged to make full use of the extended period to identify and submit their best works for the competition,” he said.

First introduced in 1980, the Malaysian Journalism Awards is the country’s highest national journalism accolade, recognising outstanding journalistic works and serving as a benchmark for excellence while promoting professionalism and ethical standards in journalism.

With PETRONAS continuing as the main sponsor, total sponsorship amounting to RM450,000 has been allocated to honour the contributions of media practitioners from various platforms.

Further information on entry requirements, guidelines and submission forms can be obtained via MPI’s official website at https://www.mpi.my/award/hkm-2025.
