KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has introduced the use of body cameras among its enforcement officers as part of efforts to strengthen enforcement systems and enhance transparency.
MPKS Chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, said the initiative was a proactive move aligned with the council’s vision to develop a digital city while supporting sustainable development goals.
He said the use of body cameras would help protect both officers and the public, as video recordings could serve as indisputable evidence during enforcement operations, reducing the risk of misunderstandings, false allegations or untoward incidents.
“Another key benefit is the strengthening of integrity.
“Officers will be more mindful to act in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) and practise good communication while carrying out their duties,” he said at the launch of the MPKS enforcement officers’ body camera system at the MPKS premises here on Friday.
Abang Ismawi added that the introduction of the technology would also increase public confidence in MPKS while supporting investigation and documentation processes.
“When the public sees enforcement being carried out in a professional and transparent manner, confidence in MPKS as an institution will improve,” he reiterated.
“The recordings can also be used as references for reporting, internal investigations and as evidence for legal proceedings.”
He stressed that the enhancement of the enforcement system was a key initiative that would serve as a catalyst in improving integrity and work quality within MPKS.
