KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has refuted claims that it neglected requests for rubbish bins at Jalan Moyan Sagah, saying its records show the first and only request was received earlier this month and was acted upon promptly.
In a statement issued today (Jan 21), MPP said it received the request on Jan 2, and arranged a site inspection on Jan 5 involving council officers, Trienekens and local residents.
“Subsequently, upon assessment and approval by the Council based on site suitability and operational requirements, Trienekens was duly instructed to proceed with the provision of rubbish bins to the respective households.
“It should also be placed on record that, throughout this period, the residents concerned were not charged any scavenging service fees in their assessment,” it said.
The statement comes in response to a Facebook post by Sim Kiat Leng alleging that MPP had ignored requests for more than 10 years and that assistance was only provided after the residents approached Trienekens directly.
MPP chairman Tan Kai described the claims as misleading and ill intended.
He expresses regret that the matter has been politicised and sensationalised, despite the Council’s timely and proper handling of the request in accordance with established procedures.
He added that misrepresentation of facts for political purposes does not serve the interests of the residents or the wider community.
He reaffirmed MPP’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public service based on facts and due process, and urged all parties to act responsibly when making public statements.
