KUCHING: Every cent donated during the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Kuching Flag Day Sale is meaningful and could potentially save a life tomorrow, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He said the initiative provides an opportunity for everyone to contribute, regardless of the amount, as sincerity is the most valuable trait.

“A sincere donation, even if it’s just 10 cent, is very meaningful. One day, the MRC may be the one saving your life,” he said in his speech during the officiating ceremony for the presentation of AED between Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) and Kuching MRC at UNIFOR complex here on Friday.

He asserted that the benefits derived from MRC are not just limited to those needing emergency services, but also extend to the wider community through training, discipline, and knowledge provided.

“Many people have benefited from the training, discipline, and knowledge imparted by the MRC, which is as important as emergency aid.

“That’s why this campaign is crucial to ensure that the MRC can continue contributing to the public,” he added.

He also said that MRC Sarawak plays a key role in making the state a national leader in voluntary blood donations.

“Elsewhere, when you need blood, you might have to pay, but in Sarawak, it’s all voluntary— and this is only possible because of the significant role played by the MRC.

“Blood supply is one of the most valuable gifts you can give to others,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kuching MRC Deputy Chairperson Dr Chou Chi Ming said the flag sale is an annual project aimed at educating the public on the importance of community welfare services, while also raising funds to support year-round activities.

“More than 100 primary and secondary schools will participate in the flag day campaign from 1 to 31 August 2025. The sale will be conducted within the school communities only,” he added.

The public is also encouraged to contribute via the official bank account under the name Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kuching District into Public Bank, account number 3112885809.

Tax exemption receipts will be issued for donations of RM10 and above. Proof of payment along with full name can be sent via WhatsApp to 019-8878018.
