KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Stampin Branch will organise a two-day blood donation campaign to help prevent blood shortages at Sarawak General Hospital.
The campaign aims to support the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank by encouraging members of the public to donate blood for patients requiring transfusions and emergency care.
“This blood donation campaign reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the healthcare system and ensuring sufficient blood supply for patients in need,” said Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Branch in a press statement yesterday (Dec 29).
The first day of the campaign will take place on Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank, from 8.30 am until noon.
“Members of the public are encouraged to visit the hospital’s blood bank during the morning session to contribute to maintaining a stable and reliable blood supply, ”it said.
“The second day of the campaign will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Mydin Bandar Baru Semariang, also from 8.30 am until noon.
“By selecting a public venue on the second day, organisers hope to attract more walk-in donors and increase community participation in the life-saving initiative,” it said.
The campaign is organised specifically to ensure a steady supply of blood at the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank, particularly during periods of increased medical demand.
Blood donations collected during the campaign will be channelled directly to support patients undergoing surgeries, treatments and emergency medical procedures at the hospital.
The organisers highlighted that blood shortages could pose serious challenges to hospitals, making public participation in donation drives crucial for healthcare sustainability.
“To show appreciation, successful donors will receive free goodie bags as a token of gratitude for their willingness to help save lives.
The Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin Branch hoped the incentive would encourage first-time donors to step forward and experience the meaningful act of blood donation.
“Members of the public who are healthy and eligible are urged to take part and make a positive contribution at the start of the New Year.
