LUBOK ANTU: A total of RM1.27 million under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) programme has been channelled to 15 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and 12 associations, in a bid to strengthen infrastructure and community welfare in rural areas.
The funds were distributed during the MRP Cheque Presentation Ceremony held here on Friday, aimed at upgrading longhouse facilities, repairing basic infrastructure, and supporting the annual activities of local associations.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, said the allocation reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable rural development.
“This funding will directly benefit the community by improving infrastructure and supporting social welfare programmes.
“I urge all recipients to utilise the funds transparently, with integrity, and effectively for the long-term benefit of their communities,” he said.
Among the JKKK recipients were JKKK Danau, JKKK Bukit Tungku, JKKK Kampung Melayu Lubok Antu, JKKK SPS Phase I and II Batang Ai, JKKK Lubok Pantu and several JKKK from the Engkilili area.
Associations that received allocations included the Community Leaders’ Association, Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association and SESCO Club Batang Ai.
In a related development, eight community leaders and ethnic chiefs (KMKK) in Lubok Antu were reappointed, reaffirming the government’s trust in their role as vital links between government administration and grassroots communities.
Malcolm stressed that the reappointments are not merely recognition, but a responsibility requiring high commitment, integrity and adherence to government policies.
He highlighted the KMKK’s strategic role in ensuring effective communication of government programmes, implementation of development initiatives, and resolution of community issues, particularly in rural areas.
The KMKK reappointed include Pemanca Grang Juben, Pemanca Chua Kee Long, Penghulu Jaul Lutau, Penghulu Klingsing Manau, Penghulu Manai Jalak, Penghulu Johnson Tanpa, Penghulu Entri Balai and Penghulu Temeling, with terms ranging from one to two years.
