KUCHING: MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Betong has proven its academic excellence after achieving an average grade (GP) for the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), placing fifth nationwide among MRSMs with the highest GP.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) stated in its Facebook post that the college recorded an improvement of 0.902, placing it among the top 10 MRSMs in the country.
Muafakat MRSM Betong president, Henry Jugah, expressed his pride in the students’ achievement and thanked the school community for their dedication.
“I am incredibly proud of this year’s SPM results.
“Congratulations and well done to the principal, assistant principals, heads of department, teachers, non-academic staff, Muafakat MRSM Betong, and parents for their continuous commitment,” he said.
Henry also extended appreciation to the college for its continuous support in facilitating college programmes, attributing part of the school’s success to its effective leadership and collaborative spirit.
In addition, he said 15 students of the college scored straight 9As in their SPM examination, while 21 students obtained straight 8As, further highlighting the students’ outstanding performance.
On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said 10 MRSMs had recorded excellent performances with a GP below 1.50 this year compared to only one MRSM last year.
“31 MRSMs recorded extraordinary achievements with GP below 2.00 compared to only nine MRSMs last year,” he said.
Of the total 55 MRSMs nationwide, 54 MRSMs successfully recorded an increase in GP.
MRSM Beseri and MRSM Balik Pulau showed the highest increase in GP, with a GP jump of 1.408 and 1.171 respectively.
