KUCHING: The Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) is prepared to work with Sarawak as the state positions itself to become a new player in the global semiconductor industry, leveraging its strategic strengths and long-term development plans.
MSIA president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said the association had taken the lead in organising an industry mission to Sarawak to give semiconductor players direct exposure to the state’s capabilities and readiness.
He said the initiative was aimed at building industry confidence and encouraging companies to assess Sarawak as a potential destination for long-term investments.
“MSIA sees it as part of our role to support both the country and Sarawak, which has set its sights on becoming an important semiconductor hub.
“The fundamentals and opportunities are already in place,” he told reporters after MSIA’s engagement session with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan here on Monday (Jan 19).
Wong said direct engagement with industry players, including site visits and dialogue sessions, was important to ensure a clear understanding of Sarawak’s overall ecosystem, particularly in terms of infrastructure readiness, energy supply and policy support from the state government.
He added that the rapid expansion of the global semiconductor sector presented an opening for Sarawak to position itself along various segments of the industry’s value chain, contributing to both state and national economic growth.
“MSIA is ready to share its industry experience and technical expertise to support Sarawak’s efforts to develop into a new semiconductor industry hub,” he said.
