KUCHING: Malaysia through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC) and Uzbekistan have strengthened their cultural ties with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of culture.

MoTAC said the MoU coincided with the official visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Malaysia on Feb 4 to 5.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Awnar Ibrahim and Mirziyoyev witnessed the signing of the MoU recently which was completed by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan and Minister of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ozodbek Nazarbekov during a ceremony at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in diplomatic relations and cultural collaboration between the two nations.

It aims to foster joint initiatives in theatre, art, music, dance, fine arts, and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

Through the partnership, both countries will facilitate knowledge exchange among experts, artists, and technical personnel via international art festivals, symposiums, seminars, and related activities.
