MIRI: MTC has announced that its rural stage bus service will commence operations on March 8, following approval from the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sarawak.
This initiative aims to enhance public transport accessibility for rural communities in Bekenu, Batu Niah, Bakong, Lapok, and Long Lama, providing residents with a safe, reliable, and affordable transport option.
As part of the official launch preparations, MTC representatives paid a courtesy visit today (Feb 26) to Bekenu assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus to introduce the service and discuss its benefits for the local community.
Expressing her delight at the initiative, Rosey stated that the bus service would not only ease travel for rural residents commuting to Miri but also boost tourism activities in the area.
“I fully support this initiative as it provides rural residents with greater access to Miri city.”
Meanwhile, MTC reaffirmed its commitment to improving rural transportation connectivity and ensuring that the service remains accessible to all.
“This stage bus service will facilitate travel for work, education, healthcare, and daily needs,” said Lee Khoi Yun from MTC.
The rural bus routes will operate according to a fixed schedule, ensuring smoother and more efficient travel for passengers.
MTC also encourages local residents to utilise the service and provide feedback to enhance operational efficiency further.
