KUCHING: Muaythai fans can expect a thrilling showdown featuring top fighters from Sarawak, Sabah, West Malaysia, and abroad.

The Bintulu International Amateur Muaythai Challenge Vol. III 2025 is slated to take place on June 27-29 at Naim Street Mall Paragon.

President of the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS), Jumaat Ibrahim, said the tournament will gather top-level muaythai fighters from various clubs across Sarawak.

“In addition to drawing elite fighters from Sarawak, the tournament will also feature strong competitors from Sabah, the West, and several other countries,” Jumaat told Sarawak Tribune.

He highlighted that international participants are expected from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Iran, and other places, with the final list of teams or countries to be confirmed soon.

Jumaat also said the event is organised by PMNS in collaboration with the Bintulu Muaythai Association, with support from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), and various other parties.

He stressed that the objective of the tournament is to unearth new talent that can be developed further, particularly with the aim of forming a strong team to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026.

He believes that the tournament offers valuable exposure to young athletes through competitive matches.

“With top athletes taking part, this is the perfect opportunity for our fighters to showcase their abilities,” he added.

PMNS is committed to promoting muaythai in Sarawak, recognising the state as one of the leading muaythai hubs in Malaysia.

“This is not only due to the athletes’ success at the national and SUKMA levels, but also their achievements on the international stage,” he said.
