KUCHING: Muaythai Kenyalang Club has emerged as the overall champion of the TYT Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Muay Thai Championship Cup 2025.
The Kuching-based club secured the top spot with an impressive haul of 22 gold, seven silver, and 29 bronze medals, earning them the round cup during the championship held at Kuching Waterfront last night (May 4).
Sting Muaythai Club took second place with 13 gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze medals, also bringing home the round cup.
PS Muaythai Bintulu Club came in third with 11 gold, 17 silver, and 28 bronze medals, while Phoenix Meranek Club finished fourth with nine gold, six silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who represented Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah presented the prizes to the winners.
Later speaking to reporters after the event, Rentap said the championship serves as an ideal platform for Muay Thai athletes to showcase their talents while promoting the sport throughout the state.

“Muay Thai is growing rapidly in Sarawak, and this tournament drew participation from across the state, including from other countries.
“We witnessed clubs not only from Kuching but also from Bintulu, Sibu, Miri, and Samarahan. This wide participation shows a strong interest in the sport,” he said.
Rentap said the Ministry was very supportive, especially upon seeing the enthusiasm from young athletes, adding that it gave them the opportunity to train and develop talent to represent Sarawak and Malaysia.
“For the next edition of the championship, it is hoped it could be held earlier to prepare athletes for the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Muay Thai Association president Jumaat Ibrahim said the association is committed to nurturing talent across the state.

“We are constantly exploring new ways to discover and develop local talent, especially among youth.
“Apart from the TYT Cup, we plan to organise other tournaments such as the Borneo Cup, and the Bintulu Challenge in cities like Miri and Sibu,” he said.
He added that these initiatives aim to sustain and enhance the quality of Muay Thai in Sarawak, ensuring it remains competitive both nationally and internationally.
