MUKAH: Residents across Mukah have warmly welcomed the government’s one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) payment, which became available for use via MyKad on Monday (Feb 9), bringing much-needed relief to households grappling with rising living costs.

The initiative, which provides direct assistance to all Malaysians, has been met with widespread appreciation, particularly amongst low-income families who say the contribution helps ease the pressure of daily expenses.

Local resident Mazlan Abdullah praised the scheme, noting its significant impact on those struggling with the escalating cost of living.

“Most recipients are using SARA to purchase essential items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and other kitchen staples that families need every day.”

Mazlan expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the MADANI government for recognising the financial challenges faced by ordinary Malaysians.

Kueh Siew Hoo from Kampung Penakub Cina said the assistance has provided welcome relief for his household budget.

“Rising prices have pushed up our daily expenses and made financial planning more difficult.

“With this support, we can buy what we need without constant worry. For small families like ours, it’s truly meaningful.”

The sentiment was echoed by Zulfahmi Zaidi from Kampung Teh, who said he felt moved that the government continues to look after citizens in rural areas.

“We feel valued because whilst this amount may seem modest to some, it makes a real difference to us.”

Observations at supermarkets and grocery shops throughout Mukah showed recipients making full use of their SARA allocation, primarily purchasing household essentials. The spending is expected to provide a positive boost to the local economy.

The scheme has also been expanded to include a wider range of eligible goods compared to its previous iteration, which authorities hope will encourage more prudent household spending.

Residents have urged the government to maintain and strengthen the SARA programme in the future, given expectations that living costs will continue to rise. Many believe such targeted assistance is vital for protecting the welfare of vulnerable communities.

The positive reception in Mukah reflects broader national sentiment, with the initiative seen as demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting citizens during challenging economic times.
