LAWAS: Efforts to strengthen the delivery of government services in northern Sarawak are being intensified through the proposed Lawas Integrated Administrative Centre (IAC).

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu assemblyman, Datuk Gerawat Gala, said the project is a strategic initiative aimed at providing comprehensive and efficient services to the people.

He also said the project reflects the state government’s commitment to establishing an integrated administrative hub that brings together various government departments and agencies under one roof.

“Once implemented, the project will spare the public from having to visit multiple offices, allowing them to access government services more easily, quickly and in a more organised manner,” he said during a monitoring visit to the proposed site on Wednesday as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

The visit was conducted to assess the current condition of the site and to ensure that all development plans are implemented in accordance with the stipulated specifications and timeline.

Gerawat pointed out that beyond improving public access to services, the centre is also expected to enhance efficiency within the public sector by providing a more modern and conducive working environment.

At the same time, he said the project is anticipated to generate positive spillover effects on the local socio-economic landscape, while serving as a catalyst for more structured and sustainable urban development in Lawas.

“Monitoring visits of this nature are crucial to ensure that development projects are implemented diligently, achieve their intended objectives and deliver direct benefits to the people,” he said.

Gerawat also emphasised the state government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening infrastructure development and public amenities across the state, particularly in the northern region, to ensure balanced, inclusive and sustainable growth.

Also present during the visit were Lawas Member of Parliament, Datuk Henry Sum Agong; Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) Regional Director, Datuk Ubaidillah Abdul Latip; and State Human Resource Unit (SIMU) Director, Sapiah Daud.
