LUNDU: A total of RM6.45 million has been allocated to improve school facilities in Lundu, said Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang.
He revealed that among the allocations was RM400,000 for the upgrading of the hall at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sematan, as well as RM100,000 for the repair of the school’s volleyball and sepak takraw courts.
“In addition, SMK Lundu will also benefit from an educational allocation amounting to RM950,000, while SK Sebako will be redeveloped with an allocation of RM5 million to provide a more conducive learning environment,” he said during the Closing Ceremony of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 for the Lundu District, held at SMK Sematan on Tuesday.
Billy pointed out that the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang was not merely a physical journey, but a symbol of the struggles, sovereignty, and sacrifices of past freedom fighters and their contribution should continue to be appreciated in the present and future generation.
“The Jalur Gemilang being flown is not just a piece of cloth, but a symbol of independence and national dignity, where every household should proudly display the flag as a sign of love for Malaysia.
“Therefore, I urge the people of Sarawak to continue upholding harmony and racial tolerance, which have always been the state’s strength, while also reminding the younger generation about new challenges, including the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology that requires collective preparedness,” he said.
This year’s convoy in the Lundu District began early in the morning, passing through several key locations including the Lundu Fire and Rescue Station, SMK Lundu, SK Bumiputera, SJKC Chung Hua Lundu, CENTEXS Lundu, and 0KM Telok Melano, before concluding at SMK Sematan, being the venue for the closing ceremony.
More than 40 vehicles from various agencies and the local communities took part in the convoy.
