KUCHING: Bank Negara Malaysia’s new Unesco coin series includes Sarawak’s Gunung Mulu and Niah Caves.
Bank Negara Malaysia announced the issuance of six limited-edition commemorative coins featuring Malaysia’s Unesco World Heritage Sites, themed Malaysia’s Treasures to the World.
Each coin’s obverse carries the inscription “TAPAK WARISAN UNESCO MALAYSIA” together with the name of the site.
The Gunung Mulu National Park design depicts the limestone pinnacles of the Sarawak park, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and striking karst landscapes.
The Niah Caves Complex coin features the Sarawak site as a rare glimpse of prehistoric life in a tropical rainforest, with archaeological remains and natural features revealing a long history of human interaction with nature.
The other four coins in the series feature Kinabalu Park, Bandar Melaka and George Town, Lenggong Valley, and FRIM Forest Park Selangor.
All six coins share a common reverse design bearing the inscription “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” at the top and the face value “5 RINGGIT” at the centre.
The design also includes a circular emblem featuring the six sites and a map of Malaysia marking their locations.
The coins are minted on gold-plated copper, weigh 28.65g each and carry a face value of RM5. Mintage is limited to 2,000 pieces per design, and each coin is priced at RM110.
Each design will be sold separately, with purchases limited to two coins per design per person.
Orders can be placed at duit.bnm.gov.my from 9am on April 11 to 9am on April 21.
All orders will be considered regardless of when they are placed within the period, and balloting will be conducted in the event of oversubscription.
